An Educational Spring Break Escape for the Whole Family

OSA PENINSULA, Costa Rica—This year, Costa Rica’s Lapa Rios Ecolodge is encouraging families to make the most of their Spring Break and summer vacations by blending relaxation and education, with a healthy dose of excitement, of course.

Now available is the Lapa Rios “Family Package,” custom designed to deliver adventure for parents and children in an ecological setting unlike any other. Here, situated within a 1,000 acre private rainforest reserve on the Pacific Ocean, guests stay in accommodating thatch-roof bungalows and enjoy three daily meals, including a new children’s menu that offers several kid-friendly, Costa Rican-fusion entrees.

Between time spent relaxing at the beach or splashing in the pool, families may partake in such activities as the Kid’s Rainforest Tour, created specifically for families and led by a private rainforest guide, the Lapa Rios Sustainability Tour, which teaches children and adults about all “green” practices at the lodge, or the Jewelry-Making Class that uses local materials and seeds to craft stunning souvenirs.

An exclusive and unique opportunity offered by Lapa Rios is a visit to The Carbonera School, a Lapa Rios-founded philanthropy that offers local children the opportunity to receive an education, even in rural Costa Rica. Visitors are encouraged to bring school supply donations and interact with the students.

Afterwards, back at the resort, children and parents can plant a seedling at the Lapa Rios Volunteer Rainforest and mark their volunteerism with a personal certificate. Kids will also enjoy watching howler monkeys swing through the trees, while witnessing Costa Rica’s biological array up close and personally. Additional activities include a Nocturnal Night Hike through the rainforest, surfing lessons, kayaking tours, dolphin watching and more.

Parents can have their own fun too—with a private luncheon served beside the foot of a beautiful waterfall or by enjoying a leisurely massage in a rainforest-view room.

The “Family Package” is offered year-round, with four-night, five-day rates starting at $670 per person.
