Lapathon Jungle Run

Lapa Rios Ecolodge to host the first Lapathon Jungle Run to raise funds for the local Osa Community

Lapa RiosPuerto Jimenez / San Jose, Costa Rica— In an effort to raise funds for the local Osa Community, Lapa Rios Ecolodge is organizing the first “Lapathon – Jungle Run” on Sunday, May 31st, 2009.  The distance will be 18 kilometers starting in the rainforest near Lapa Rios and ending at the Lapa Rios Reservations office in Puerto Jimenez.  Registration is open and guests coming to stay at the lodge for this event for a minimum of three nights, will receive a 50% discount on their room package rate.  For lodge reservations, please contact Arnay Garcia at info@laparios.com or tel. (506) 2735-5130.

Contrary to other races, there will be no “littering” with plastic cups and the Lapathon strives to be the most sustainable race in Costa Rica, very much in line with the philosophy of Lapa Rios Ecolodge, one of the world’s model ecolodge.  All profits from the race will go to the Puerto Jimenez Ambulance.  Currently, the ambulance does not count with the basic life support equipment to transport a person in critical conditions.

The registration fee for the event is $5 if you register before May 15th.  If you register after this date, the fee will be $15.   This fee will cover t-shirts for all participants who finish the race, hydration throughout the competition, first aid assistance and a participation certificate.

Lapa Rios Ecolodge is operated by Cayuga Sustainable Hospitality, a high-end hospitality management company specializing in ecolodges and sustainable hotels and resorts.  To find out more about sustainable practices at Cayuga hotels, please visit:  www.cayugaonline.com.
