Lapa Rios Ecolodge Honored with Two Prestigious Awards
Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica, November 18, 2003. Lapa Rios
Ecolodge was recently honored with two awards. They
were included in the Condé Nast Traveler Gold
List and Lapa Rios Ecolodge ranked #7 for the
top 20 Latin American Hotels category in the Readers Choice Awards
for 2003 based on location, rooms, food, service, and design.
More than 28,000 Condé Nast Traveler subscribers
voted in the ninth annual Reader's Choice Poll, from which the
magazine distilled the world's top-scoring hotels, resorts, and
cruise lines.
The second award, given in October 2003, is from the Certification
for Sustainable Tourism (CST) program in Costa Rica . The program
evaluates a property's sustainability level by awarding one to
five leaves. Lapa Rios achieved the highest award ranking four
out of five in 2001 when the ecolodge was first evaluated. In August
2003, the hotel was reevaluated and again presented the highest
honor as the first hotel in Costa Rica to attain the five-leaf
level.

project that strives to show that "a forest left standing is worth
more than one cut down." The resort is a pioneer in sustainable
tourism employing only people from the local community and is committed
to environmentally sound practices.
Lapa Rios Ecolodge's accomplishments are guided by
a mission to serve as a model demonstration of responsible ecotourism.
They accomplish their goal by adhering to the guiding principles
of: utilizing tourism to acquire and protect endangered rain forest,
