Along with the conservation of the tropical rainforest, education is the single most important aspect of the Lapa Rios Eco Lodge’s commitment to sustainability. Without education there would be no sustainable tourism on the Osa Peninsula. We believe that all education, whether formal or informal, basic or skilled, provides people with the necessary tools to make decisions that improve lives and encourages respect for the natural world and the use of its resources. We believe in the transforming power of education, the possibility of living more sustainably and the supportive role of travel philanthropy for a destination´s community development and environmental conservation.
CARBONERA SCHOOL + SCHOLARSHIPS
Lapa Rios helped build the Carbonera School next to the nature reserve in the early 1990’s and has supported the education of elementary school children in this very remote part of Costa Rica for more than two decades. Lapa Rios continues to support the school through donations, organization of summer schools as well as environmental education programs. In 2006, we expanded our reach to support other rural schools in the area and now help ten of Osa Peninsula Schools by building classrooms, dining rooms and supporting them with needed supplies.
Our programs impact more than 120 children by rebuilding infrastructure and providing the supplies that are necessary for learning.
Lapa Rios offers scholarships to employees’ children at a private school in Puerto Jimenez and offers help with college education to its staff members. For more information on giving back.
