Lapa Rios Eco Lodge is located in the Osa Peninsula - in the southern part of Costa Rica near Panama. Our beautiful property is about 12 miles from the nearest airstrip in the town of Puerto Jimenez, which is a short 50 minute flight from Costa Rica’s capital of San Jose where international flights land at Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO). Driving from SJO to Lapa Rios Eco Lodge takes about 7 hours.
The eco lodge is situated in a private 1000 acre rainforest reserve with direct access to three nearby beaches: Pan Dulce, Backwash Bay and Matapalo. Our property overlooks the point at which the Pacific Ocean meets the Golfo Dulce and has many nature trails where you’re sure to see many of the special creatures from the Osa Peninsula.
The easiest and fastest way to get to Lapa Rios Eco Lodge is with a flight on one of our two domestic airlines offering scheduled daily flights from San Jose to the nearby small airstrip in Puerto Jimenez, a 45 minute car ride to Lapa Rios.

- all in-country flights have a 25 lb. baggage limit per person. Additional luggage can usually be accommodated for an extra charge. If you carry more than 30 pounds you may be required to leave your luggage in San Jose until the next flight with space available.

Traveling to Lapa Rios by car is a great way to experience our country and culture. During the journey you will enjoy the beautiful landscapes and the friendliness of Ticos. The trip from San Jose to Lapa Rios will take approximately 7 hours including a few short stops on the way. You can reserve a reliable and bilingual transportation service through Lapa Rios. Approximate cost is $480. We can also help you rent a car if you’d prefer to explore on your own.
From San Jose, take Route 27 San Jose-Caldera, diverted Coast Highway (Route 34) after Orotina, to continue to Tárcoles, Jacó, Parrita and Quepos after about 3 hours. You always continue to follow the same Coastline Road passing Quepos, Dominical, Uvita until Cortés. You will turn left before actually getting into the center of town and follow the road to Palmar Norte (aprox. 15 min.). At Palmar Norte turn right (south) on the Carretera Interamericana. Thirty-three kilometers past Palmar Norte turn right at Chacarita, where you will see a service station by the name of "Corcovado." On this paved road you will drive a total of 75 km through Rincon, La Palma and eventually on to Puerto Jiménez. When in Puerto Jiménez, please check-in at the Lapa Rios office at the corner of the landing strip and the cemetery. Feel free to ask anyone in the town where the Lapa Rios office is. We will give you directions to Lapa Rios Eco Lodge from there.
Approximate travel time from San Jose is 7 hours, and from Manuel Antonio it is 3.5 hours.
