WILD WATERFALLS
This hike follows a trail down to the Carbonera River. Along the way, you’ll be able to see species that live by the riverside, such as frogs, insects, snakes, and if you’re lucky, spot mammals by the river.

One of the longer hikes on the property, this trail follows a forest ridge with occasional views over the coastline. You’ll walk through a mix of primary and secondary forest, with opportunities to learn about local plants, trees, and wildlife.

Depart from the lodge on a guided electric bike ride and explore the surrounding areas in a dynamic and accessible way. Accompanied by one of our guides, cruise the roads near the lodge, reach nearby beaches, bird watch like you’ve never done before and move along forest edges where wildlife is often seen.

Proper Attire
- Shorts and t-shirts are generally best for hiking.
- Walking sticks are helpful and recommended for most trails. The guides will kindly give you one.
- Bring water with you on all hikes (our concierge team will provide bottles).
- Insect repellent is recommended. Ask the Concierge for a bottle.
- Wear footwear with good grip. Rubber boots are available for all hikes and can be especially useful on wet or slippery terrain.
Safety Guidelines
- Please do not feed the animals.
- While you are welcome to bring snacks on hikes, avoid leaving any food scraps or trash behind.
- Do not remove or collect any plants, flowers, or natural materials from the forest.
- Hunting is strictly prohibited within the reserve and surrounding areas. If you notice any suspicious or unauthorized activity, please inform our team.
- Watch your step while walking. Be mindful of uneven terrain.
- If something catches your attention, stop walking before you take a closer look.
- Lapa Ríos and its reserve are part of an ongoing conservation effort. Please leave everything as you found it, and take only photos, have great experiences, and lasting memories.
