Artisanal Cacao Tour
A 1 hour and 15 minute drive from Lapa Ríos Lodge leads to a small cacao farm in the Osa Peninsula, where chocolate is produced on site from harvest to final product.
After a short walk through the cacao trees and an introduction to fermentation, you begin working with the beans directly. They are toasted, ground by hand, and refined into a smooth paste before being shaped into your own bar with sugar and selected ingredients.
The visit continues with a cacao butter face mask and a traditional lunch prepared over a wood-fired fogón, offering a closer look at local cooking practices.
How Cacao Actually Works
Most people have eaten a lot of chocolate without ever seeing what cacao looks like on the tree, or understanding what fermentation does to the flavor, or touching the grinding stone.
This tour covers all of it in sequence. By the end, the bar guests take home is one they made themselves from a bean they watched come off the tree that morning.
