Wild Waterfalls
Follow a forest trail down toward the Carbonera River, moving through one of the wetter and more adventurous landscapes surrounding Lapa Rios.
Along the way, look for species that thrive beside the river, including frogs, insects, snakes and, with some luck, mammals moving through the forest.
Once you reach the river, the route continues alongside and through shallow water before arriving at a waterfall where you can cool off with a refreshing swim.
A Forest Hike with the Reward of a River Swim
This is one of the more adventurous hikes on the Lapa Rios reserve, combining rainforest trails with the changing terrain of the Carbonera River.
Uneven ground and shallow river crossings make the journey part of the experience, while the surrounding forest offers constant opportunities to notice wildlife and the smaller details of the river ecosystem.
At the end, the waterfall provides a natural place to stop, swim and enjoy the forest from a completely different perspective.
