Matapalo Tour

OSA PENINSULA

Discover the Matapalo Region’s wild coastline and tropical secondary forests during this approximately two-hour light hike through the Lapa Rios private nature reserve and the nearby beaches of Matapalo, Pan Dulce, Manzanillo, and Backwash. The adventure begins at approximately 3 p.m. at the Guide Hut for a short briefing before descending through the coastal forests where some of the reserve’s liveliest creatures make regular appearances, including endangered scarlet macaws, white-faced capuchins, howler monkeys, iguanas, and several marine bird species. Depending on the tidal conditions, participants can either explore the rocky coastline along the beach or walk under the coastal forest of wild almond trees and coconut palms. Guests are picked up at Playa Matapalo for the short drive back to the Lodge.
