OCEAN ADVENTURES · STARFISH WALK

Starfish Walk

Timed with the low tide, this coastal walk invites you to explore the world between land and sea.

With your guide, follow the beach to a nearby reef where shallow tidepools form, revealing a variety of marine life adapted to these shifting conditions. Look out for sea stars, octopuses, crabs, small fish, and other coastal creatures.

The walk begins with a short transfer to the starting point and returns to the lodge afterward. This activity is available only during negative tides.

THE GOLFO DULCE

Why the Golfo Dulce Is Different

Just a few kilometers from Matapalo is the Golfo Dulce, one of only a handful of tropical fjords on earth. Most fjords are cold water phenomena.

The Golfo Dulce is an exception: a deep, enclosed body of water in a tropical setting, which creates marine conditions found almost nowhere else in the world.

The water stratifies, warm at the surface and cold below, producing an environment that supports humpback whales, dolphins, and whale sharks. On the walk to Backwash Beach, that water is visible on the horizon.
