Bird watching on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica

Lapa Rios Eco Lodge is undoubtedly one of Central America’s top birding destinations. Nestled in more than a 1,000 acres of primary and old re-growth rain forest, Lapa Rios has recorded more than 325 bird species from varied ecosystems ranging from our Golfo Dulce-Pacific beaches up to the 350 mts. (1,150 ft.) primary forest-covered Osa Peinsula hilltops, and along river crossings and nearby grassy fields.

Imagine enjoying a warm cup of early morning coffee or tea in your bungalow as you watch bright-rumped attilas play off your deck. Come witness raucous pairs of scarlet macaws stream by in the early dawn light, or site the Osa-endemic black-cheeked ant tanager for the first time. To spot an incredible array of other wild birdlife, we highly recommend our on-property Early Bird Tour with one of our experienced guides.

Check out some of the birds you can see on our extensive bird list. Most first-time Costa Rican visitors will likely see and hear more than 100 new birds species during a 4-5 day Lapa Rios experience!
